Mexican Fire Opal is a unique form of opal found in Jalisco state, Mexico. It is found within a matrix of white to reddish brown potch, and owes its predominantly reddish tone to the presence of iron oxide.
Opal is a hydrated amorphous silicon dioxide – a form of silica without a visible crystalline structure, which contains up to 30% water in its structure.
Opal consists of tiny spheres of silica. These silica spheres are packed together in an orderly grid. This grid diffracts light, resulting in a colourful play of flashing light.
Mexican Fire Opal is a crystal for passion and joy de vivre (joy for life) and promotes vitality. It is also a stone of luck and abundance.
