We’re giving 3% of our sales from the Melbourne Gift Fair this August to Melbourne charity, FareShare.

FareShare’s amazing contribution to the world is that it rescues food to feed the hungry. They are a small, non-profit organization, which decided to do something about all the food that’s wasted every day – meat, fruit and vegetables that don’t look perfect and are rejected, bread not sold on the day of production, unopened items on a hospital meal tray – all destined for landfill. But FareShare collects this food from businesses willing to donate it, and transforms it in their kitchen into nourishing meals. It’s then distributed through local charities to those who struggle to feed themselves.

Another aspect of their work is to raise awareness of the magnitude of hunger and food insecurity around us, and the extent of food wastage. In Victoria alone, about 200,000 people go hungry or suffer malnutrition, because they have uncertain access to healthy food. This includes the unemployed and the working poor.

Volunteers are integral to FareShare’s good work, performing the cooking and preparation of food in FareShare’s kitchen, as well as its distribution, but FareShare relies on donations to cover its operating costs.

The Melbourne Gift Fair is a significant wholesale event where many retailers will be placing orders, so we’re excited about the contribution we’ll be able to make to FareShare.

The NSW equivalent of FareShare is OzHarvest.

Testimonials

"Buying from Blue Turtles is always a pleasure - opening all those drawers at the Gift Fair to see the hidden treasures inside – because you know you’ll only see the good stuff. Each stone is chosen aesthetically, set with heavy silver and finished beautifully... you don’t get bumpy edges, join marks that haven’t been polished out, left over tarnished sections or stones hanging out the back of a setting. The attention to detail is obvious from the moment you look at any piece. It’s well priced, especially for the quality of the stones and the amount of silver used. You get prompt and efficient service, always with a smile!"
