We thought about how we could contribute something meaningful to help those heavily affected by January’s floods in Queensland and Victoria, and now those impacted by cyclone Yasi, and we realized that, rather than limit ourselves to a personal donation, we could leverage the power of the Poetic Pieces Collection, both to raise much needed funds, and also to give the gift of inspiration to those who really need it.

As the experience of the survivors of Black Saturday taught us, the difficulties and strain won’t necessarily recede with the flood waters. Our friends can use our support in many ways into the future.

So, between now and February 28, Blue Turtles offers you the opportunity to purchase a heartfelt  gift for those affected by the floods – a pendant inscribed with the empowering words, “What does not destroy me makes me stronger”.

We’ll ensure that the pendants are passed on to the people who could truly use these words, and we’ll distribute 70% of the retail price of  your purchase to the Queensland Government’s Disaster Relief Appeal , the Red Cross Victorian Floods Appeal and The Salvation Army appeal.

The sterling silver pendant will cost you $55. This means that for every pendant you purchase for a flood victim, a further donation of $41.25 will be made to the above appeals.

To purchase the gift, contact us directly with your credit card number on Melbourne number +61 3 9557 9972 (This is both a telephone and fax number). We will issue you with a receipt by email.

Once the campaign is closed on February 28, we’ll begin production of the pendants (hopefully there will be lots of them!) and will endeavor to deliver them all by the end of March.

Cyclone Update

In the wake of Cyclone Yasi, we will also be looking to extend this fundraiser appeal to help those in Far North Queensland.

We’ll focus on exactly how we’ll distribute gifts and proceeds when the time comes, and we welcome any feedback from people who are involved in any ongoing relief efforts.

Just thought that I would like to tell you that this is a lovely thought – as a victim of 2 floods within 5 months all kindness from others is appreciated. One comment – I am not sure how the QLD appeal works but you may like to actually query the distribution of funds from the organisations you intend to dontate your funds to in Victoria at least.

Once again – thank you for thinking of all victims in this difficult time

Hi Juli,
Thanks for your feedback. You’re right that we’ll need to question how the funds are distributed. We welcome any feedback that will help us to make the right decisions. We only want to do what’s best for those concerned.
To date we’ve only received a small response, so we urge everybody to get involved, and to spread the word so that others can be involved too.

A moving piece of jewellery
I would have liked to be able to purchase the pieces myself to give to friends
who were in the thick of things at Innisfail and survived the night but as this was not an option I felt compelled to donate this way rather than
through the red cross and other charities.
Thanks so much for thinking to do it.

"Buying from Blue Turtles is always a pleasure - opening all those drawers at the Gift Fair to see the hidden treasures inside – because you know you’ll only see the good stuff. Each stone is chosen aesthetically, set with heavy silver and finished beautifully... you don’t get bumpy edges, join marks that haven’t been polished out, left over tarnished sections or stones hanging out the back of a setting. The attention to detail is obvious from the moment you look at any piece. It’s well priced, especially for the quality of the stones and the amount of silver used. You get prompt and efficient service, always with a smile!"
