Robert Browning was an accomplished Victorian English poet, who was born in London in 1812 and died in Italy in 1889. He was renowned for his dramatic monologues.

His relationship with his wife, poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning, began as admiration for her poetry before developing into love. As her father disapproved, they kept their relationship secret for 6 years until Robert stole Elizabeth away to Italy and married her.

Believe it or not, this quote by Browning was not about his love for his wife. It comes from a poem titled “Rabbi Ben Ezra”, the monologue of a wise old man to a younger man, advising that age has a lot more to offer than youth.

Surprise! However, when taken out of context, this is yet a beautiful sentiment on love!

This quote is available as a pendant (P-13-67), bracelet (B-3-67) and earrings (E-4-67), and is one of a selection of beautiful quotes available from the Poetic Pieces Collection. If you haven’t done so yet, request the full Poetic Pieces catalogue by clicking here.

Testimonials

"Buying from Blue Turtles is always a pleasure - opening all those drawers at the Gift Fair to see the hidden treasures inside – because you know you’ll only see the good stuff. Each stone is chosen aesthetically, set with heavy silver and finished beautifully... you don’t get bumpy edges, join marks that haven’t been polished out, left over tarnished sections or stones hanging out the back of a setting. The attention to detail is obvious from the moment you look at any piece. It’s well priced, especially for the quality of the stones and the amount of silver used. You get prompt and efficient service, always with a smile!"
